A few weeks ago, in a meeting, we were asked to go through a series of questions with someone sitting across from us for 5 minutes, and this repeated until we had a chance to chat with almost everyone. Many of those questions are ones we hear most often like, “Would you rather live in the mountains or the beach?” and “What is your dream job?” There was one that stuck out to me that I have been pondering since that day, and it is:
“In your opinion, what are the seven wonders of the world?”
It stopped me in my tracks.
As someone who has not traveled much, I immediately felt like I was unable to answer this question since I had not laid my eyes on anything that many would deem wonderful, nor would I say I am completely content with the current standings of my life, but maybe that’s the point.
What if the wonders of this life are ones that encompass our mundane, ordinary lives? What if the seven wonders of this life are as simple as
a barista knowing your name and your order when you walk through their doors at any time of day
friends who encourage you to see yourself the way they do
the sun making it’s way into your bedroom and landing majestically on your plants
nailing a recipe and being able to add it to your list of go-to’s
slow mornings filled with journaling and pockets of peace prior to a full and eventful day
books that challenge you to use your imagination and dream alongside the characters
finding that perfect jumpsuit that fits just right in your favorite color
All of these seemingly simple moments never cease to leave me amazed and in awe of the goodness within my midst. Somehow, even though I am not where I thought I would be and haven’t traveled nearly as much as I would like, there is something wonderful to behold, right here and right now.
So, I will leave you with the same question that has been challenging me:
“In your opinion, what are the seven wonders of the world?”
In it with you,
Jordyn
I love this so much, Jordyn. Thank you for this.
Such a good read!!!
